Investing in the Future of Specialty Pharmacy: Senderra Welcomes Its First PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Class
At Senderra Specialty Pharmacy, investing in people has always been at the heart of what we do. That's why we're proud to officially launch our new PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program, a program designed to help pharmacists gain hands on experience in the specialty pharmacy industry, learning from our very own talent here at Senderra.
Designed to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy education, this 12-month residency program prepares pharmacists to become confident, well-rounded leaders in specialty pharmacy. Based in Dallas, Texas, the program offers an immersive learning experience across direct patient care, managed care, leadership development, academia, and specialty pharmacy operations.
Throughout the year, residents will participate in a variety of learning experiences and rotations while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams that care for patients with complex specialty conditions. They'll gain valuable experience managing specialty medications, supporting clinical initiatives, engaging with providers and patients, and contributing to innovative pharmacy solutions that improve health outcomes.
Beyond clinical training, the program emphasizes professional growth through meaningful mentorship, networking opportunities, teaching experiences, and leadership development. Residents will graduate with the skills and confidence needed to pursue advanced clinical roles, board certification, and long-term careers as leaders within specialty pharmacy.
The residency program has already achieved American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Candidacy Status, with full accreditation anticipated following the successful completion of the inaugural residency year. This achievement underscores Senderra's dedication to maintaining the highest standards of pharmacy education and training.
Welcoming Our Inaugural Pharmacy Residents
We're excited to welcome Paola Lugo, PharmD, and Priscilla Hounkponou, PharmD, as the first residents in Senderra's PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program.
Both joined Senderra with a shared passion for expanding their clinical knowledge, learning from experienced mentors, and delivering exceptional care to specialty pharmacy patients. They were drawn to Senderra's collaborative culture, supportive team environment, and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a broad range of specialty disease states.
As they begin this exciting journey, Paola and Priscilla will work alongside experienced clinical pharmacists, providers, and interdisciplinary teams while building the expertise needed to become future leaders in specialty pharmacy.
Resident Spotlight: Priscilla Hounkponou, PharmD
Priscilla pursued a pharmacy residency to continue learning from experienced mentors while working within a collaborative healthcare environment. During her interview process, she was immediately impressed by Senderra's welcoming culture and strong sense of teamwork, qualities that have only continued to stand out since joining the organization.
Throughout the residency year, Priscilla is looking forward to growing both personally and professionally while strengthening the clinical knowledge, leadership skills, and confidence needed to provide the highest level of care for specialty pharmacy patients.
We're thrilled to have Priscilla on the Senderra team and look forward to supporting her continued growth throughout the residency.
Resident Spotlight: Paola Lugo, PharmD
For Paola, pursuing a residency was an opportunity to further strengthen her clinical expertise while opening new doors for professional development. Senderra quickly became her top choice after experiencing the organization's supportive culture during the interview process and learning about the diverse specialty medications and disease states managed by the clinical team.
Following an exciting first week with Senderra, Paola is eager to collaborate with colleagues across the organization and continue developing as both a clinician and leader. By the end of the residency, she hopes to become a board-certified specialty pharmacist while continuing to grow as a mentor and advocate for patients.
We're excited to have Paola as part of Senderra's inaugural residency class and can't wait to see all she accomplishes throughout the coming year.
