PGY1 Residency Program
Program Overview:
The Senderra Specialty Pharmacy PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month post-graduate training program that provides a unique, comprehensive learning and work experience aimed at providing residents with the knowledge and skills to become confident clinicians and future leaders in the specialty pharmacy industry.
Location: Dallas, TX
Education / Licensing Requirements:
- Graduate or candidate for graduation from an ACPE Doctor of Pharmacy Program or holds a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Committee (FPGEC) certificate from NABP
- Texas pharmacist licensure or eligibility for licensure (license to be obtained within 90 days of start date)
- If pharmacist licensure not obtained prior to start date, must hold Texas pharmacy intern licensure prior to start date while awaiting pharmacist licensure
Experience Requirements:

Prior pharmacy work experience as a technician or intern is encouraged, but not required

Responsibilities:
-
Provide safe, effective specialty pharmacy services to patients taking medications for complex conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel, multiple sclerosis, hepatitis C, cancer, and other disease states requiring high-touch clinical care.

Oversees and directs pharmacy technicians and technician trainee’s workflow, including order entry and prescription verification processes (PV1/PV2) to ensure prescription accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.

Assist patient care coordinators as needed in supporting patients through medication access processes (e.g. prior authorizations, appeals, financial support connection).

Completes initial patient consults educating patients on their medication.

Responds to patient inquiries and concerns regarding their medication or therapy.

Contacts physicians to clarify prescriptions and intervene on potential medication therapy-related issues.

Conducts drug utilization reviews (DUR) and recognizes opportunities for medication-related interventions related to health issues that may interact with the patient's medication therapy.

Provide operational staffing support, including on-call support once trained.

Identifies errors made during the prescription order entry process and redirects orders to be corrected prior to dispensing.

Approves medication orders to be packaged and shipped to the patient once deemed accurate and complete.

Ensures compliance with industry standards and accreditation requirements established by URAC, ACHC, and VIPPS.

Accepts verbal prescriptions from physicians' offices

Facilitates transitions of care and prescription transfer processes

Works collaboratively with other departments to support clinical services, operational efficiencies, and manufacturer/payer programs

Participates in staff meetings, conference calls, and other meetings, as needed.

Uses effective communication and clinical skills to interact with other healthcare professionals, coworkers, and patients to provide patient-centered care.

Supports continuous process and quality improvements projects.

Conducts a research project with goals of improving pharmacy practice, clinical care, patient safety, healthcare operations, or investigates gaps in knowledge related to patient care.

Leads in-services to clinical pharmacist and other teams as assigned to meet educational needs of team members.

Adheres to organizational Policies and Procedures and all state and federal drug laws governing pharmacy practice.

Engage with specialty pharmacy leaders throughout the industry through participation in both internal and external committees.

Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand 8 plus hours daily.
- Requires normal vision (corrected) both close and distant.
- Requires normal hearing levels (corrected).
- Requires working at a desk to use a phone and computer for extended periods of time. Requires sitting, bending.
- Uses office equipment and machinery effectively.
- Requires normal finger dexterity for keyboarding.
- Works effectively with frequent interruptions.
- Lifting requirements of 15 pounds occasionally.
- Minimal travel for conference, seminars, ect. (<10%).
